I wrote the book the Search for Being over a number of years in my thirties and forties. Each chapter describes the perspective of a different psychologist, psychoanalyst, or philosopher. The book is about:
how we can lose our connection to our own sense of being
needs that must be met for us to develop as individual beings
how we differentiate from our families
authenticity
deviating from family patterns
barriers to being
our mind in an intersubjective context
the core of being
our inner sense
moving from unformulated to formulated experience
selfhood
the narrative self
the quest for a new mode of being
using therapy or analysis to come to a new way of being
the person-environment fit
the archetype of orientation
the relationship between violence and being
representing reality
wholeness
The ideas discussed in the book can make us more conscious of what is involved in recovering our sense of aliveness. To read a sample chapter of the book, The Search for Being, click the title of the book to be taken to the publisher's web site.
