From the book, Diagnosis and Treatment of Sociopaths and Clients With Sociopathic Traits by Debra H. Benveniste, M.S.W.
from page 59
"Many times people enter into the fields of corrections or criminal justice because they find something intrinsically comforting in taking on the role of the one who keeps the world safe for humanity or for the 'good guys.' Generally speaking, these people feel a strong need for order and for control of 'bad' impulses, and a significant amount of projection is at play here. In this context, it has frequently been noted that police officers and sociopaths are often opposite sides of the same coin. It is revealing to learn that kids who end up becoming either police officers or career criminals often come from the same group of delinquents."
